Our story
Why We Built a Sump Pump Line in Lafayette
Lafayette gets about 62.8 inches of rain in an average year (NOAA normals via Wikipedia). The ground is flat, the clay drains slowly, and many homes sit on raised piers over a crawlspace.
When a pump under one of those homes quits in a storm, most people call the first plumber they find. Some get a careful test and a small, fair repair. Others get a new pump for a switch that only needed freeing, or a bill far above the price they heard on the phone.
We built SumpShield Lafayette so Lafayette Parish homeowners have one number for pump problems, plus plain guides that explain each step before anyone pulls a pump out of the pit. Our main page is the sump pump repair line for Lafayette.
Call (337) 265-9484The problem we saw
Pump failures are urgent, so homeowners have to trust someone they just met. The most common complaints we found were new pumps sold when one part had failed, bills far above the quote, pumps sized wrong for the pit, and install shortcuts like a missing check valve. Homeowners had no simple way to check any of it.
What we built instead
A sump pump only line with plain guides for every step: how the cause is found, when to repair or replace, what changes the cost, and what to ask before work starts. Every fact on this site links to the public source it came from.
Local conditions
The Lafayette Pump Problem: What Makes This Area Different
Pumps fail everywhere. Lafayette Parish has a few local conditions that shape how they fail, how fast it gets serious and how they get fixed.
The rain
June is the wettest month at about 7 inches, and hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 (National Hurricane Center). Pumps run long and hard for months at a time.
The drainage
The Vermilion River is the parish's major storm drain, fed by coulees such as Coulee Mine and the Isaac Verot Coulee (Lafayette Consolidated Government). When they run high, yards drain slower.
The houses
True basements are rare here. Pumps drain crawlspaces under raised homes, yard and patio basins, garage drains and rooms set below the ground.
The growth
Youngsville nearly doubled from 8,105 people in 2010 to 15,929 in 2020 (Wikipedia). Many newer slab homes rely on yard basin pumps.
The outages
Storms that bring the most rain often cut the power too. A standard pump stops when the lights go out, which is why we explain battery backup pumps.
The sizing
A pump too big for a small pit cycles nonstop and burns out (Plumber magazine). Ask how any new pump was sized.

- 04Sewage and ejector pumpsPumps that lift waste from fixtures set below the sewer line.
Our standard
What Backs Everything on This Site
Trust has to be earned with facts, not badges. Here is what you can check for yourself.
Every claim sourced
Every number and local fact links to a public source. The full list is on our resources page.
No fake reviews
We do not post ratings, testimonials or awards we cannot prove. The case studies on this site are labeled as typical jobs, not named customers.
No made up prices
A fair price needs a tested pump. We explain what changes the cost instead of posting numbers that may not fit your home.
License check guidance
Plumbing work in Louisiana needs a state license. You can check any plumber with the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana.
Plain words
Our guides are written to be read fast, with the answer first. Short questions get short answers on the sump pump FAQ.
What we do not promise
We do not promise a time of arrival or round the clock service. Timing depends on which plumber is free when you call. See our six step process guide.
